According to a Nielsen’s Online Retail Report, Kiwis spent $3.7 billion on online shopping, and almost a quarter of that was spent on purchasing from international websites.
More than a half of New Zealanders made a purchase online, and a quarter made 11 or more online transactions – ranging from buying clothes, accessories, books, entertainment tickets and paying for airline tickets, accommodation and car hire!

Shopping online also makes it easier to find unique products that are not being offered at local shops – or often, you may be able to purchase items online that are no longer available or are sold out in stores.
But there are a few disadvantages, such as, for example, having to pay for shipping and wait days or weeks for the products to be delivered – and inability to see, try on and compare products in person. It may also make it easier to get a bit carried away and spend more than you have budgeted for. That is why we have compiled a few useful tips on online shopping:
1. Do Your Homework
Before you buy something from a new website, make sure you Google their name to see other customers’ feedback; and do a bit of research on the product if you have never purchased it before. Compare it to other similar products or services to ensure you get the best deal.

Check their website and social media accounts for coupon codes and any special deals they may be offering to their fans and followers.
3. See if Free Shipping is Provided
Shipping can sometimes cost more than the product itself, especially if you live in New Zealand! Often, websites offer free shipping on all purchases (great!), or on purchases over a certain amount – but make sure you don’t overspend JUST to receive free delivery. Some companies also offer free delivery from time to time, so it may be worth waiting for that special promotion.
4. Shop Carefully
