Treat Your Mum Without Breaking The Bank
Mother’s Day is all about honouring mothers and motherhood, and this year it falls on May 12. If you want to treat your Mom to something nice on the special day, but can’t spend hundreds of dollars – these ideas may be of help! After a brainstorming session, we have come up with 5 ways to show your Mom that you appreciate her without breaking the bank.
Take her out for a coffee. Can’t afford a fancy dinner? Take your Mom to your local cafe and treat her to a nice hot mocha and an exquisite chocolate cake, all while catching up on the latest news and gossip. Cost: approximately $20.
Buy her flowers. All ladies love flowers, especially if they get it from their beloved family members! You can either get a florist to create a flower bouquet for you, or purchase a pre-made one. Depending on your budget, you can spend from $5 to hundreds of dollars, but an average price would be somewhere around $40 for a nice flower composition. My advice would be – go to a florist as they use fresh cut flowers, add greens for a more ‘designer’ look and can also make the bouquet look fancier by using different decoration elements, such as wrapping paper and colour ribbons. However, if you don’t have time, you can purchase one from the supermarket; I also know that you can sometimes buy a bunch of freshly cut, home-grown roses for $5 at your local Sunday market. Cost: from $5.
Give her a family portrait. There is no such thing as too many family photos around the house – so why not give your Mom another one? If you are like me and you never have time to go through your digital photos to pick the ones to print, now is the time! Dig through your recent family photos until you have found a real stand-out, get it printed (at almost any pharmacy or photo shop), order an enlargement if necessary, and purchase a nice-looking frame from The Warehouse or a $2 shop. Done – now you can pat yourself on the back for being such a great son/daughter. Cost: $5 and over.
Give her a gift that will keep on giving. We are not talking about a battery recharger here (yes it keeps on giving, but it’s not the most exciting gift in the world), but rather about things like a magazine subscription. A great thing about it is that it doesn’t cost much, but it will remind your Mum about your awesomeness every time she receives a new, shiny issue of her favourite magazine – be it about fashion, gardening, professional development or anything else she is into. Cost: depends, on average around $50 for a year’s subscription.
Help her around the house. This is one of the free ways to show your Mum you appreciate her! With so many things to be done around the house, I am sure she will be happy if you help her even a little bit – be it washing the dishes, walking the dog or simply helping her cook dinner. Cost: free.
